Coq. group hosts meeting on genetically engineered foods

A group concerned about the health of foods with genetically-engineered ingredients will be hosting a presentation for Tri-City residents at the David Lam campus of Douglas College in Coquitlam on Thursday, Nov. 21.

A group concerned about the health of foods with genetically-engineered ingredients will be hosting a presentation for Tri-City residents at the David Lam campus of Douglas College in Coquitlam on Thursday, Nov. 21.

GE Free Tri-Cities and Coquitlam Family Chiropractic have partnered with the Society for a GE-Free BC and Greenpeace Vancouver to bring the "Genetically Engineered Foods and Human Health" speakers tour to Coquitlam.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. inRoom A1470 and will be an opportunity for the public to discuss their concerns regarding GE foods. The tour features presentations by Dr. Thierry Vrain, a retired soil biologist and genetic engineer who, after a 30-year career with Agriculture Canada, now speaks against GE technology, and Dr. Shiv Chopra, a former Health Canada senior scientific advisor who has concerns about Monsanto's GE bovine growth hormone (rBGH).

Both Vrain and Chopra will address the topic of GE foods and human health from both a scientific and a regulatory perspective.

A suggested donation of $5 is requested, however, no one will be turned away.Doors will open at 6:30 and raffle tickets will be available at the door.
