Coquitlam kids 'like' author Jan Brett and want you to 'like' her, too

The creator of Hedgie and Christmas Trolls books could be coming to Coquitlam if Nestor elementary school kids can garner enough likes for author Jan Brett on Facebook.

Brett, a popular children's author and illustrator, has mounted an international challenge, offering to visit the school or library that has the most friends or supporters that "like" her on Facebook,

Nestor elementary school has so many "likes," it is ranked in the top 10 but the Coquitlam school's teachers and students would like help from the community to push it to number one.

"That would be so cool to have the author visit," said teacher Nora Boekhout.

Boekhout and colleagues Lynne Nielsen and Jane Brancati got the ball rolling by getting their students to "like" Brett on Facebook, then they extended the challenge to parents and other schools.

At the last count, Boekhout said, Nestor had garnered 11,000 votes for Brett.

"We're trying to give it the 100%," she said.
