Amanda Manzardo and Rene Girard have been chosen and a number of special fundraising events that will be held at the local detachment are in the works. The purpose of the events is to raise money to help pay for travel and accommodation-related costs, so Amanda and Rene can compete in the week-long sporting event.

"We are very proud of Amanda and Rene and inspired by their strong spirits," said Coquitlam RCMP Const. Michelle Luca. "Their perseverance and sportsmanship are what humanity is about. No matter what the outcomes are at the games, they are both championship to us."

The Coquitlam Mounties will be hosting a fundraising barbecue event on June 6 and said more details will be forthcoming.
