Two Coquitlam schools are passing the mid-century mark with celebrations.

On Thursday, Miller Park elementary school celebrated its 50th anniversary with a community celebration and on Friday, Nov. 22, Harbour View elementary school will hold a community event.

"It's going to be a low-key celebration with cupcakes and speeches in the gym - not many speeches," promised Wendy Yu, Harbour View principal. She said students will be taking guests on tours through three rooms filled with memorabilia from the 1960s through to the 2000s. "I thick they're pretty excited," Yu said of the students.

The Harbour View event is open to the community from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., with the speeches at 4 p.m.
