Gardeners are learning tricks and techniques for improving their backyard plots thanks to a new program funded by a grant from Vancity.
The Port Moody Winter Farmers Market is hosting a workshop series to get gardeners going for spring and the market's executive director, Tabitha McLoughlin, said the workshop series is a good place to get started.
"This grant gives us the resources we need to create a program that is useful, tangible and has the potential to change behaviours in the community," she said.
A workshop on worm composting took place on Jan. 18 but there are three more workshops to come:
Feb. 15 - planning our backyard garden;
March 2 - care and importance of mason bees;
and April 19 - small spaces gardening.
It costs $10 to take part in the workshops but participants will get $10 in Market Money to shop at the market. The workshops take place at the Port Moody rec complex, 300 Ioco Rd.. To register, visit www.makebakegrow.com.
