Share Alcohol and Drug Program is hosting a free education series running through the new year. The program offers important information for those who have an alcohol or drug problem or for those concerned about their use.

Share Alcohol and Drug Program is hosting a free education series running through the new year.

The program offers important information for those who have an alcohol or drug problem or for those concerned about their use. It will help those people affected by others' use to understand addicts and addictive behaviour.

Topics will vary from week to week as outlined below. The format consists of a video, a brief presentation and open discussion, and sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Share, 2615 Clarke St., Port Moody. The days and topics through the end of the year are:

Nov. 6 (today): alcohol - how dependence develops; controlled using; also you will learn briefly about drinking, drugs and driving;

Nov. 13: cocaine and crystal meth - the struggle to recover, and what long-term recovery looks like;

Nov. 20: marijuana - a second class addiction?

Nov. 27: heroin and other common depressants/opiates - addiction, struggle and recovery;

Dec. 4: anger - understanding your anger and learning how to manage it more effectively;

Dec. 11: trauma - how substance misuse often occurs with people who have experienced childhood abuse and how these experiences may cause relapses.
