Local firefighters are looking to fill up the food bank shelves tomorrow during a special fundraising drive for Share Family and Community Services.
The food drive is taking place in partnership with CKPM-FM, Safeway. Firefighters from the Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam departments will be hosting the second annual "Fill Up the Fire Truck" food drive this Friday December 12th at Safeway 2850 Shaughnessy St. and Safeway 3025 Lougheed Hwy.
Both events run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. wit a goal to re-stock food bank shelves to meet the needs of Tri-Cities residents after the holiday season. Two fire trucks will be at both sites from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in hopes of symbolically filling them until they burst.
Last year, Share provided Christmas hampers to 2,659 adults and 1,895 children and were able to carry on supporting our clients after the holidays, thanks in part to this food drive.
The Coquitlam Fire Department is also supporting Share's post-holiday food collection by providing collection bins at all of their halls. There will be two bins inside each location and one accessible after hours for anyone in the community that would like to donate to the food bank.
The locations are:
Coquitlam Town Centre Fire Hall (#1 Fire Hall) - 1300 Pinetree Way
Mariner Fire Hall (#2 Fire Hall)- 775 Mariner Way
Austin Heights Fire Hall (#3 Fire Hall) - 428 Nelson Street
Burke Mountain Fire Hall (#4 Fire Hall) - 1424 Coast Meridian Road
