The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC's mobile Rod Loan crews will visit Lafarge Lake on Tuesday, Aug. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. While crews are onsite, Lafarge Lake visitors have the opportunity to borrow a fishing rod for free. Crews provide rods, tackle and some tips on how to use the gear to anyone interested in giving fishing a try.
"It's an opportunity for people who are enjoying the lake to try something new. Lafarge Lake was stocked in June so there are quite a few catchable fish in the lake," says Jessica Borrows, Rod Loan Program coordinator. "The crews are there to help people of all skill levels. People who have never held a rod before are able to try catching a fish and find out a bit more about what fish are in Lafarge Lake."
Mobile Rod Loan crews are visiting locations throughout the province throughout the summer. Location information is available on the www.gofish.bc.com website in the How to Fish section. Updates are also posted on the Go Fish BC FaceBook Page.
The Go Fish BC! Rod Loan program was introduced in 2011 at visitor centres in Terrace, Prince George, Williams Lake and Quesnel. Twelve locations have been added in 2012 at hatcheries in Clearwater, Abbotsford, Fort Steele, Summerland, Duncan and partner fishing tackle businesses in Chilliwack, Surrey, Kamloops and Kelowna as well as the Kamloops Visitor Centre and the Summerland Visitor Centre and Chamber of Commerce. The Rod Loan program is the result of a partnership between FFSBC; Tourism BC, Ministry of Jobs Tourism and Innovation and the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation.
The FFSBC is a not-for-profit organization funded directly by anglers through freshwater fishing licence revenues. It provides stocking programs that support 50 per cent of all fishing in B.C. lakes, conservation fish culture services for sturgeon recovery efforts and programs to enhance access to fishing for all British Columbians.
