Get fit and help out local youth - that's the goal of a fundraiser organized by Twist Fitness and Conditioning in Port Coquitlam in support of Tri-Cities youth.
On the last Saturday of every month, starting at 8:30 a.m. (arrive 15 minutes early), Twist will hold a bootcamp for charity. With a $10 donation for the workout, Twist will match the donation and hand it over to Share to benefit after school programs that contain a recreational component for youth in the Tri-Cities.
"I just wanted to give back and this seemed like a good way with a direct connection to physical activity," said George Watts, who runs the PoCo Twist centre.
PROMOTING HEALTHIER LIFESTYLES
Jake Moir, who is Share's Fund Development officer, said the partnership is a good one because Share also wants to see Tri-Cities youth lead healthier lifestyles.
Share's after school programs already contain a physical fitness component but the funds raised will help provide equipment and possibly expand the programs to other schools.
"Share is driven by a community mandate, we wouldn't exist without individuals and local business support," he said, noting it's important to get children active at a young age.
Twist also contributes to KidSport Tri-Cities and partners with School District 43 to offer conditioning workouts for student athletes.
The charity bootcamp is for adults and will be directed to any fitness level. Free body composition testing, nutritional handouts and prizes will also be given out. The first workout is slated for Saturday, Feb. 28.
