The annual Scary Story Contest, hosted by Coquitlam and Port Moody public libraries and sponsored by The Tri-City News is back.
Tri-Cities residents ages 11 to 18 years can write a terrifying tale and submit it to panel of judges, who will award first-, second- and third-place prizes to the best entries in each category (11 to 14 years and 15 to 18 years). The contest rules are:
Each entry must be no longer than 500 words.
Each entry must be an original story.
Writers who submit entries must be no younger than 11 and no older than 18 as of the deadline date of Oct. 19.
Writers must include the following three words in their stories: berserk, gibbering and cavernous. Stories that do not include these words will be disqualified. (If you do not know what they mean, look them up in a dictionary.)
Each writer must include his or her name, age, phone number and city of residence with their entries.
Writers must email their entries to [email protected] no later than Sunday, Oct. 19. Entries sent after midnight - early in the morning of Oct. 20, in other words - will not be accepted.
Winners in each category will get Coquitlam Mall gift cards worth $50 (first), $30 (second) and $20 (third). Some winning entries will also be published in The Tri-City News on Oct. 31.
