The cities of Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam are celebrating World Rivers Day, Sunday, Sept. 30, with events that celebrate local rivers, creeks and trails.
Here's what's happening:
PORT COQUITLAM
The 2012 Rivers and Trails Festival takes place at two locations, Lions Park and Peace Park, which will be linked with a group bike ride at 11:30 a.m. (starting from Lions Park), and shuttle buses.
Lions Park: From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2300 Lions Way, there will be a Lions Club pancake breakfast, Salmon Journey passport stations, worm composting workshops, children's entertainment, a river clean-up organized by VanCity (volunteers welcome, bags provided), nature-inspired art stations and displays.
Peace Park: Noon to 4 p.m., 1470 Kebet Way, there will be paddlewheeler river tours (tickets $2), a boat building workshop, and a barbecue by Arctic Meats.

COQUITLAM
World River's Day in Coquitlam will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. with tours of the Coquitlam River Park at 1190 Shaughnessy St. Park at the River Springs Community Centre, located at 1950 Lodge Drive, Coquitlam.
Representatives from local stewardship groups, City of Coquitlam, Metro Vancouver, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and the BCIT will provide guided tours of the trails and salmon habitat enhancements sites. Tours start every half hour with the last tour at 1 p. m.
The Coquitlam River Round Table will be on hand to provide activities and giveaways and will be selling mugs for a $5 donation.
CLEAN UP
Help remove English Ivy at Minnekhada Regional Park in Coquitlam on Sunday, Sept. 3 from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is on rain or shine, no experience necessary, tools, gloves and refreshments provided.
