Port Moody's Golden Spike Days are one of the Tri-Cities' biggest annual events and they don't happen without a great deal of planning and work by volunteers.

That work has already begun for the 2013 edition of the festival - taking place during the city's 100th birthday - and the Golden Spike Days Festival Society is holding its annual general meeting this month. The AGM is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 17 in the Parkview Room at PoMo city hall.

The society is looking for volunteers to become part of the board of directors, which includes an executive consisting of president, vice-president, treasurer and secretary as well as 10 directors who oversee all aspects of the festival, such as entertainment, events, marketing, sponsorship and fundraising.

If you have questions, call 604- 931-8852 or email [email protected]. Membership in the society costs $5.
