Add something grown locally to your harvest table this weekend by shopping at the Coquitlam Farmer's Market on Poirier St.
The farmers market is hosting its annual Fall Harvest Festival and barbecue on Sunday, Oct. 12, in the parking lot of Coquitlam's Dogwood Pavilion.
The market opens at 9 a.m. and the barbecue will start at 10 a.m., featuring two types of beef sausages from Redl's Home-Grown Beef. Their beef is naturally raised in the Cariboo region with no feed additives or antibiotics. Gesundheit Bakery will be supplying the fresh-baked rolls and condiments will be donated by JJ's Country Cooking, Aji Gourmet Foods, and other regular vendors.
Christina Sepedoza-Walter, from Wilbur and Sabastian's Smokehouse and Bistro, will be on hand to cook up some fresh seasonal vegetables to add to your BBQ fare.
Sustainable SFU will be on hand to help the market become more eco-friendly. For example, bottled water will no longer be sold. However a water refill station is available. Juice boxes and hot beverages will still be offered, with discounts available for those with refillable coffee mugs.
The market will be decorated in a festive tone with seasonal displays from our vendors and fun activities for the kids. Children can try their hand at milking Delilah, the life-size ceramic cow from BC Dairy. They can also "bob for apples" from Silverhill Apple Orchard and make some harvest crafts to decorate their own Thanksgiving celebrations. And face-painting by Marni is back by popular demand.
The Poirier Street farmers market is located in the Dogwood Pavilion parking lot at 624 Poirier Street (Poirier and Winslow) in front of the lawn bowling and tennis centre. The market is open every Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from May 11 to Oct. 26.
