Heart help in Coquitlam

Coquitlam Parks, Recreation and Culture has partnered with the Fraser Health Authority to offer fitness programs for those living with heart conditions or other health issues.

Coquitlam Parks, Recreation and Culture has partnered with the Fraser Health Authority to offer fitness programs for those living with heart conditions or other health issues.

Under the supervision of certified instructors, participants will learn about nutrition and safe physical activity recommended for their health conditions.

The programs are:

Hearts - Forever Strong, to be held at Glen Pine Pavilion on Thursdays, 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 to 10:30 a.m. from Feb. 7 to April 13, is a gentle fitness program in a supportive environment. Participants will learn about balancing diet and physical activity. The cost is $200 and registration is required.

Hearts - Stay Strong is offered at Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex on Mondays from Feb. 4 to March 27, 1 to 2 p.m. and is a cardiac rehab program for those living with heart conditions and/or health issues. The program will support participants in getting physically active and balancing their diet. The cost is $140 and registration is required.

TIME is the new circuit-style fitness program designed for adults with stroke, acquired brain injury or multiple sclerosis and is offered at two locations: City Centre Aquatic Complex on Wednesdays and Fridays, Feb. 6 to March 15, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; and Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 5 to March 14, 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Participants must be able to walk 30 feet with or without a walking aid. The cost is $120 and registration is required.
