Helping youth grieve

Everyone eventually experiences the loss of a friend or loved one but it can be especially tough on young people. To help, Crossroads Hospice Society is offering the Learning through Loss Youth Workshop on April 1.

Everyone eventually experiences the loss of a friend or loved one but it can be especially tough on young people.

To help, Crossroads Hospice Society is offering the Learning through Loss Youth Workshop on April 1.

Crossroads and Learning through Loss Society are holding the workshop for professionals, parents and others who want to learn more about recognizing and supporting youth through grief and loss.

Participants will leave this workshop with greater understanding of how to support youth though the different stages of grief and loss, specific tools for engaging youth in healing activities, and best practices for facilitating a youth loss support group.

The workshop runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 1 at First Memorial Funeral Services' Burkeview Chapel, located at 1340 Dominion Ave. in Port Coquitlam. Cost is $55, with cash or cheque accepted at the door (cheques should be payable to Crossroads Hospice Society). Admission includes a morning snack, lunch and handouts. For payment by Visa or MasterCard, call Nadia at 604-945-0606.

For more information, contact Shelly Pennington, Crossroads' special events/support volunteer co-ordinator, at 604-945-0606 or [email protected].
