FIELD DAY
Catch a slice of the worldwide amateur radio competition as Port Coquitlam's Emergency Preparedness Communications team (EPCom) hunkers down at Castle Park (2252 Castle Cres., off Citadel Drive) this weekend. Everyone is welcome from noon to 4 p.m. to try and make radio contact to help the team earn points. EPCom will be at Castle Park from 5 p.m. Friday to noon Sunday as part of the competition. RUSSIAN COMEDY
Teenagers, 19th-century Russian theatre and comedy aren't necessarily three things you'd normally see together, which makes this Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) show at 1 p.m. worth checking out. See what happens when a group of eight teens take on an adaptation of The Inspector General, a comedy written by Nikolai Gogol in 1842, the culmination of their Next Stage Production course. Celebrate the Rocky Point Park institution that is Pajo's, which has been turning out fish 'n' chips for 25 years now. There will be music, prizes, cake and a fire truck tour, from 1 to 5 p.m.

MAILLARDVILLE FÊTE
Celebrate St. Jean Baptiste Day in Maillardville at Heritage Square (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam), where there will be music, free food and fun for the whole family. Festivities run from noon to 3 p.m. And join artist Joy Kirkwood as she paints banners to mark Place des Arts' 40th anniversary, from noon to 3 p.m. The banners will go up in Maillardville in September.
MIDSUMMER FÊTE
Be transported to another world when the Public Dreams Society transforms Colony Farm Regional Park into a scene from a Midsummer Fête, complete with music and art installations as well as roving performers, storytelling, a labyrinth and a tea party, from 1 to 5 p.m. Parking is limited; a shuttle bus leaves Lougheed SkyTrain station every 15 minutes starting at 12:30 p.m. Admission is a $5 donation per person.
STRIDES FOR STROKES
Cheer on participants in the Strides for Strokes event at the Coquitlam Farmers Market (and if you want to participate, be at the Dogwood Pavilion at 624 Poirier St. at 11 a.m. to register).
