A new indigenous-style gathering structure, which will be a permanent fixture at Shelter Point Park, is now under construction on Texada Island.

First Peak Contracting owner Ryan Beggs [above right], together with Carlin McBean, is cutting slots in fir pillars for the knife plate that will help secure the posts onto cement footings.

The indigenous design by Tla’amin Nation is in keeping with significant archaeological finds in the park.

Construction is expected to be complete next week.
