Kids aged five to 10 years old can spend Friday's professional development day learning about the natural world around them in Port Moody's second annual Hike for Habitat.

The full-day program starts from the rec complex at 9 a.m. with a hike to Old Orchard Hall, where members of the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (OWL) will be on hand for some eco-education.

"They're going to bring some birds and do a presentation on the wildlife rehabilitation centre," said Rebecca Lyne, recreation programmer for Port Moody. "After that they'll spend some time beach combing at Old Orchard, and we're hoping the weather doesn't pour down like last year."

The group will hike back to the recreation centre for lunch, followed by a trip to the Noons Creek Hatchery.

Hike for Habitat runs Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. Cost is $20 per person. Register at 604-469-4556.
