Learn about cops at emergency fair Friday in Coquitlam

This year's Junior Mounties Police Academy may be booked up but that does not mean Coquitlam residents can't learn more about policing.

This year's Junior Mounties Police Academy may be booked up but that does not mean Coquitlam residents can't learn more about policing.

The Interactive Emergency Response Fair for young people will be held Friday at the Poirier recreation complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam) between 9 a.m. and noon.

"The Emergency Response Fair... is a wonderful opportunity to show the junior Mounties the various opportunities the policing world offers," said Const. Danielle Pollock. "It is also a great way for the public to meet the first responders who serve their community and it truly is a lot of fun."

The event will be held rain or shine and will include everything from an Air One RCMP helicopter landing to police dog service demonstrations.

Participants will also get the chance to test speed readers at the hockey net shooting gallery and check out the robots and bomb suits used by the explosive disposal unit.
