Tri-City anglers looking to learn a few skills can take part in the Learn to Fish program starting this month.

Two classes will be offered in Coquitlam at Como and Lafarge lakes every alternate Thursday evening between 6 and 8 p.m. until the end of the summer. The class at Lafarge begins on May 31, while the Como class starts on May 24.

"Parents, kids and would-be anglers are looking for new outdoor experiences and our Learn to Fish classes fit the bill perfectly," said Tanya Laird, outreach assistant with the Freshwater Fisheries Society, which is organizing the classes. "Our turnouts have been great so we've decided to offer more classes at popular fishing spots across the Lower Mainland."

Pre-registration for the class is required but all necessary gear is provided and participation is by donation. Those interested should contact the Fraser Valley Trout hatcher at 604-504-4716.

A special Family Fishing weekend event will also be held on June 16 at both Coquitlam Lakes.
