There is nothing more satisfying than eating a ripe tomato or crunchy cucumber grown in your own garden.
Now, imagine pouring yourself a cold beer made with ingredients you've grown.
Home brewers and craft beer connoisseurs will have a chance to try their hand at growing hops during two workshops the city of Coquitlam is offering.
Brian McLennon, Coquitlam's outdoor sports supervisor, said the course was prompted by "the emergence of that whole home brew community that is emerging in Vancouver."
Mike Por, a hobby hop grower and Coquitlam's landscape manager, and Darren Hollett from Mission Springs Brewing, will lead these workshops at the city's Inspiration Garden, located in Town Centre Park.
Hollett has been brewing beer, including award-winning ales, at his Coquitlam home for almost 10 years, and he and Por will teach participants how to grow their own hops, detailing what varieties are available to make specialty lagers and ales.
To register for these workshops - which run on July 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. and again on July 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. - visit coquitlam.ca/garden.
