Two Metro Vancouver regional parks in the Tri-Cities are hosting a trio of events this weekend:
Friday, April 13: Minnekhada Regional Park in Coquitlam is the site of Evening Frog Song from 7 to 9 p.m. Participants will spend the evening strolling the marsh, learning about frogs and other amphibians. How much can a bullfrog eat? Where do frogs go in the winter? You can find out with a Metro Vancouver park interpreter. This program is for people six years and older. Cost is $4.25 per person for children, youths and seniors, $8 for adults and $21.25 per family. Call 604-432-6359 to register - advance registration is required.
Saturday, April 14: Minnekhada Regional Park hosts Do Animals Have Homes? from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Moss for a pillow? Burrow for a bed? Participants in this program for kids three to five years of age and their parents will learn where animals live and look for nest boxes, lodges and tunnels. Parents can play hands-on, sensory games and share an outdoor experience with their pre-schooler. Cost is $12 per child/adult pair. To register call 604-432-6359. Participants will meet at the Quarry Road parking lot and the program runs rain or shine.
Also on Saturday, April 14: You can take a Fresh Air Hike from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. starting at Belcarra Regional Park. Participants will explore the wild side of the park, joining a park interpreter for a guided hike from Sasamat Lake to Woodhaven Swamp. From fall fungus to remnant white pines with foot-long cones, this challenging trail is sure to reward. The hike is for people 15 years of age and older. Cost is $5.50 per person for adults, $3.25 for youths and seniors. Hikers are asked to wear clothing suitable to the weather, and boots or walking shoes are recommended; as well, they should bring water and a snack. Participants will meet at the washroom building below Belcarra's Parking Lot F. To register, call 604-432-6359.
