Open house at Hyde Creek hatchery Saturday

You can learn about the salmon life cycle and help release coho smolts during an open house this weekend at the Hyde Creek Education Centre and Hatchery in Port Coquitlam.

The smolts, which are 18 months old (having been raised since egg stage by volunteer members), will be moved from the rearing pond to Hyde Creek on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tours, displays and a fundraising hot dog barbecue will also take place.

Parking for this free event is at the Hyde Creek rec centre on Laurier Avenue, a short walk west along the Traboulay PoCo Trail.
