Dignitaries will be on hand next week to celebrate the construction of seven two- and three-bedroom town homes for low-income women and children in Coquitlam.

On Tuesday, BC Housing Minister Selina Robinson and Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart will be on hand to mark the opening of Como Lake Mews, located at 520 Como Lake Avenue, which is a partnership between the YWCA and Beedie Living.

Beedie developed a 26-storey condo tower called the Crown with seven non-market-housing units acquired by the YWCA for single moms and their kids.

Similar to other YWCA supportive housing, Como Lake Mews will provide women and their children with a supportive and caring environment and connect tenants to resources such as child care, legal education and employment services.

YWCA raised $1.5 million in the campaign to build YWCA Como Lake Mews, which is next to the YWCA’s Como Lake Gardens at 528 Como Lake Avenue.

Families are currently moving into the new town homes.
