Healthy Kids Fair
Get ideas for raising healthy kids at the Healthy Kids Fair in Coquitlam on Thursday, April 20.

Parents struggling with conflicting information about how to raise healthy kids may want to check out the Healthy Kids Fair put on by the TriCities ECD Committee on Thursday, April 20.

This year's fair taking place at Pinetree Community Centre, 1260 Pinetree Way, will have a "Live 5-2-1-0" theme which aims to help parents give their children the best start in life by promoting healthy eating, less screen time and more activity.

Community organizations will be available to provide parents of tots and preschoolers with information on safety, health, literacy awareness, recreation and other community programs, including child care and preschool for children in the 0 – 6 age group.

The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and, in addition to receiving a free children’s book, children will also receive some fun things to play with outside.

There will be over 30 interactive displays including a multicultural circle time, Coquitlam Public Library Story Time, and a gymnastics circuit. Families whose first languages are Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean and Farsi, will have access to interpretation on-site.

Once again, snacks are being catered through the School District 43 Culinary Arts program, located at Gleneagle Secondary School. All the food served meets the Healthy Food Guidelines that have been implemented in SD43.

Admission is free, non-perishable items are being accepted for the local food bank and presenters will not include organizations selling goods or services.
