A group of parents concerned about the lack of schools on Burke Mountain has launched a website, a Twitter account and a Facebook profile to share news and information.

The website http://schoolsforburke.com and #SchoolsForBurke was set up to share information and concerns about lack of schools in the new Coquitlam neighborhood.

"We're hoping to keep it going until the first shovel is hitting the dirt," said Leslie Lee, one of the parents who helped develop the site who has a toddler and another baby on the way.

Lee said she was aware of the school issue when she moved to the area last summer but is surprised more hasn't been accomplished to get the school built considering all the young families that are moving into the area and will continue to move to Burke Mountain over the next few years.

She's even doubtful that the planned 2017 opening date for Smiling Creek, the first school for the area, is even possible because funding has yet to be approved.

The school district has said it is finalizing land acquisition for the property and plans a meeting in late spring to share progress with parents.
