If you like to keep your garden contained, Place Maillardville Community Centre is the place to be this spring.

Every Saturday from April 21 to May 26, the Coquitlam rec facility hosts The Edible Landscape, a workshop on container gardening for the balcony, patio or small yard. Participants will learn how to grow vegetables, fruit and flowers in small spaces so they may eat healthy, save the environment and save money.

Classes run from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Heritage Room at Place Maillardville and the cost is $6 per person (children may attend for free and must be accompanied by an adult); as well, all garden tools and supplies are included, and participants get to keep their containers and plantings.

Topics are as follows:

April 21: Preparing garden beds, what seeds to plant, space saving ideas, planting in pots.

April 28: Making a salad hanging basket - pretty, convenient and space-saving.

May 5: Growing your own fruit; planting, pruning and growing in small spaces.

May 12: Herbs- annuals, perennials, fresh and dried; how to grow them, how to use them.

May 19: Flowers in the veggie patch or vice versa.

May 26: What plants or seeds to start for fall and when to do it.

Space is limited and early registration is strongly recommended. No drop-ins are allowed.
