Calling all poetic Port Moody teens: If you submit your best two poems about Port Moody's past, you can become part of the city's centennial celebrations.
The Centennial Youth Poet Laureate will help Port Moody make the most of its 100th birthday through poetry readings, public appearances and participation in arts events. Poems will be used to inspire the community to celebrate the city's heritage during the 2013 centennial celebrations and beyond.
As well as leadership and civic engagement opportunities, the Youth Poet Laureate will win a $500 prize and have his or her poem included in a centennial time capsule. One runner-up will win a $250 prize, and all contest entrants will have their poems published in the School District 43 Journal of Writing.
Port Moody residents aged 13 to 18 years of age are encouraged to apply online at library.portmoody.ca/youthpoet, where full contest details are available. Submit your best two original poems by the Jan. 31, 2013 deadline. Poems must involve a theme of Port Moody's history.
