Kids aged 5 to 10 are invited to celebrate this year's Summer Reading Club theme of "Savour Each Word" by growing their very own edible plant.

Kids aged 5 to 10 are invited to celebrate this year's Summer Reading Club theme of "Savour Each Word" by growing their very own edible plant.

Port Moody city horticulture supervisor, Polly Coad, will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the flora and fauna surrounding the civic centre.Children will learn the names of different flowers and trees, see plants at various stages of growth, and discover what the works yard crew does every day to keep the city looking beautiful.Participants will then get to experience the planting process first-hand and leave with a plant they can care for - and eat - at home.

The event takes place tomorrow, Thursday, July 21 from 10-11 a.m. in the ParkLane Room at the Port Moody Public Library. The event is free, no registration is required but a parent or guardian must accompany the child.

Youngsters should also dress for the weather. Space is limited to 25 participants. For more information please call the library at 604-469-4577 or visit library.portmoody.ca.
