Port Coquitlam firefighters will attend your block party

Residents of Port Coquitlam are being encouraged to invite city firefighters to their block parties or community events this summer as part of the city's Hot Summer Nights program.

Residents of Port Coquitlam are being encouraged to invite city firefighters to their block parties or community events this summer as part of the city's Hot Summer Nights program.

As part of the city's centennial celebrations, PoCo is encouraging residents to hold block parties by waiving the application fees and providing free celebration kits. Having a visit from the fire department gives adults and children the opportunity to engage with emergency crews and learn more about rescue vehicles, equipment and fire safety.

The Hot Summer Nights program was launched in 2005. Since then, firefighters have attended hundreds of events in neighbourhoods, parks, schools and businesses.

The department will work with organizers to develop a theme for the event, covering topics ranging from helmet safety and use of fire extinguishers to barbecue safety and smoke alarm maintenance.

Go to www.portcoquitlam.ca/fire for information on the Hot Summer Nights program and other fire safety information. To request a visit, contact deputy fire chief Randy Minaker at [email protected] or call 604-927-5340.
