Higher Ground Wellness Society in Port Coquitlam is offering a new program called Stand Firm, a life skills course that aims to promote emotional, mental, physical, spiritual, relational and functional wellness. The group plans to offer personal coaching, tutoring for the General Education Development (GED) diploma, help with re-establishing identification, dealing with legal and financial issues, employment skills, computer basics, and help finding long-term housing.

The group already operates a food bank, a clothing co-op, and soup kitchen on Kingsway Avenue.

Aviva will be handing out $1 million in grants for 2013 for community projects. To vote for the Higher Ground Wellness Society, visit www.hgws.org.
