The dream of a Port Coquitlam elementary school to have an accessible playground could become a reality thanks to an online contest.

Castle Park elementary school in the Citadel Heights neighbourhood is seeking up to $150,000 from the Aviva Community Fund contest (www.avivacommunityfund.org) and its project has reached the semi finals.

To win, the project has to get people to register and vote everyday without missing a day from Dec. 3 to 12.

"Port Coquitlam is turning 100 years old next year and we don't want one more playground to be built that does not include everyone of all abilities. As a parent of a child with special needs who drives a powered wheelchair to get around, I can't just watch Maliyah sit on the sidelines anymore without trying my best to make a positive change," stated proponent Farah Hirji Chung in an email.

The cost of the playground is estimated at $300,000 and the school has already raised $30,000 for the cause.
