Pinetree secondary students will be getting an important visitor tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 16 when B.C.'s Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon will be on hand to recognize the song-writing ability of one particular student.

Kylie Fonacier, a Grade 12 student, is being honoured for her award-winning song extolling the virtues of the province which will be celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2017.

Fonacier, who immigrated to Canada from the Philippines three years ago, said the song was written in about two hours last spring with words and melodies she already had in her head.

"Honestly, I didn't expect it," Fonacier said of the win, acknowledging that the song wouldn't have happened if it hadn't been for the school's vocal jazz choir which agreed to sing the song for the contest entry.

In addition to the visit, the group will win $1,000.

Fonacier's song "Here's to us all" won in the under 16 category and can be shared via this YouTube link
