You can help young people while kicking off your summer with some fun fundraising next week.

The Coquitlam-based Children of the Street Society is hosting its annual pub night on Wednesday June 26, 6 to 9 p.m., at the John B Neighbourhood Pub (1000 Austin Ave., Coquitlam). Tickets cost $20, which gets you a burger (chicken, beef, or veggie), fries and a drink, and can be purchased by phoning the society's office at 604-777-7510.

As well, there will be a silent auction and raffle draws. Prizes include summer getaway packages across B.C. and in the Caribbean, restaurant and retail gift certificates, accommodations at hotels and lodges, tickets for B.C.'s top tourist attractions, certificates for date nights, kids' fun packs and more.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards Children of the Street Society's prevention, education, early intervention and support programs, all aimed at addressing the sexual exploitation of children and youth.

This school year, the society's school-based program Taking Care of Ourselves, Taking Care of Others has educated more kids than ever in its history, conducting 590 workshops to more than 24,000 participants ages 11 to 18 years.

The school-based program is designed and delivered by young adult workshop facilitators and addresses recruitment, online safety, healthy relationships, gangs and other current trends relating to sexual exploitation.

Children of the Street Society is a provincial society and federal charity comprised of citizens concerned with the number of children and youth being sexually exploited in B.C. For more information, visit www.childrenofthestreet.com or call 604-777-7510.
