If your child is having difficulty with reading or writing, or if he or she needs a bit of extra practice and motivation, Port Moody Public Library's Book Buddies can help.

If your child is having difficulty with reading or writing, or if he or she needs a bit of extra practice and motivation, Port Moody Public Library's Book Buddies can help.

This fun, free program helps children in Grades 2 to 4 improve their reading and writing skills through weekly practice. Children are paired with trained teen mentors for 45 minutes of shared reading, writing and learning games in a safe, supervised library setting.

And PoMo library will be adding writing help to this popular program for the first time this fall. "Parents were asking us if we could help with writing as well," said Maryn Ashdown, head youth services librarian, "so we decided to include writing opportunities in the Book Buddies program for the first time."

Book Buddies sessions will run every Saturday morning from Oct. 20 to Dec. 15. You can register by calling 604-469-4577 or going to the library information desk. For more information and times, visit www.library.portmoody.ca.

PoMo library is open weekdays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.
