School Pet Fest a barking success

Heritage Woods students raised funds for animal shelters and a lot of dogs got to show off their skills

They danced, they rolled over and some dogs even played dead, during the Heritage Woods secondary school Pet Fest last Friday.

Coquitlam Animal Shelter and Katie's Place, a no-kill cat shelter in Maple Ridge, were the beneficiaries of HWSS Pet Fest, put on Friday, April 8, by organizers Kiaunna Lee, Nicole Huang and Amanda Dunbar.

Dozens of dog lovers showed up at the event for an agility test, dog treats, portraits, games and a dog show, which had mutts of various breeds try out for best costume, waggiest tale and other contests.

In all about $430 was raised for the shelters, according to the organizers.
