SD43 students reach out to others

Either collecting food or helping those less fortunate, local students are making the most of their holiday giving

School District 43 is one of the largest contributors to the food bank run by Share Family and Community Services, with thousands of pounds of food delivered to fill the shelves this winter.

Here's what some local students did this month:

Congratulations to the students at Rochester elementary school in Coquitlam, who collected dozens of bags of food, toys and toiletries for the food bank during their Paper Bag Fill-up initiative. The Grade 4/5 French Immersion students in Monica Anderson and Lorna Wou's class challenged the school to collect food, toiletries, books and toys — in just a few weeks collected 140 bags.

REACHING OUT

Kodiaks with a Purpose, a philanthropic club from Heritage Woods secondary school in Port Moody, visited people at Oppenheimer Park in downtown Vancouver on Dec. 8. The students make a monthly visit, bringing a homemade hot lunch and baked goods, in addition to basic necessities, for the people who live in the neighbourhood.
