Sports psychologist speaks to Jr. Mounties

Sports psychologist Roger Friesen will be conducting a presentation for the Coquitlam RCMP Junior Mounties Police Academy today (Wednesday, May 15).

Sports psychologist Roger Friesen will be conducting a presentation for the Coquitlam RCMP Junior Mounties Police Academy today (Wednesday, May 15).

Friesen, an instructor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of the Fraser Valley, is passionate about working with people and helping them explore their full potential.

Building on his career in sports psychology, he has applied his skills to high stress professions and critical incident stress management.

Roger is a professional consultant in the field of mental training for national and Olympic teams and athletes, the performing arts and sports tourism.

He has also worked with emergency care professionals as part of a team managing critical incidents for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Tory Nyhaug, a BMX racer who was part of Team Canada London 2012, and Tom Advocaat, a special Olympics coach, will also attend the event.

The presentation takes place between 7 and 9 p.m. on May 15 in council chambers at city hall (3000 Guildford Way).

Parking is free and spaces are available underneath city hall and in the open parking lot approximately 175 metres west from the back of the building off Burlington Drive.

The event is free and everyone is welcome.
