BENCH FROM GARDENERS
Members of the Port Coquitlam's garden club gathered with city councillors last week to celebrate the group's donation of a park bench, which was bought to mark its 20th anniversary. The bench is located along the Donald Park trail.
CARRIER OKAY
Bill Susak, Coquitlam's general manager of engineering and public works, and Fred Hendy, the city's fleet services superintendent, last month joined engineering committee chair Coun. Brent Asmundson and CUPE 386 president Ken Landgraff in accepting a certificate from Dave Duncan for the city's inclusion in the provincial Premier Carrier Program. The program, sponsored by the ministry of Transportation and the BC Trucking Association, is aimed at rewarding carriers that show exceptional commitment to road safety and that showcase their best practices to other carriers. Coquitlam is the first municipality in the province to win the accolade.
INNOVATOR
A Coquitlam company took gold at last week's Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) awards. Officials with IMEC Mechanical Ltd. walked away from the 23th annual gala with the top prize in the sustainable construction and innovation category. The 700-member VRCA is the province's largest regional construction association.
REVVED UP FOR XMAS
The 6,000 motorcyclists who took part in the 33th annual Vancouver Toy Run, which departed from Coquitlam Centre mall, revved in $23,000 for charity last month. More than 4,000 toys were also donated to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau from the event, which is organized by the B.C. Coalition of Motorcyclists. Next year's run is scheduled for Oct. 7.
