POCO 'STACHE

Port Coquitlam firefighters put the city on the map during Movember by raising the fourth highest amount in the country for the Great Canadian Fire Department Challenge.

Spokesperson Ryan Masi said the accomplishment is huge "for a small department of only 70 members.

"I feel this is incredible to share the top spots with other departments ten or more times our size," he told The Tri-City News last week.

Masi, along with Kirk Paterson and Adam Myles, collected most of their $12,742 at the Nov. 15 Movember Hockey Tournament at Planet Ice in Coquitlam. The campaign helps men's health issues including prostate cancer.

ARTS BURSARY

Port Moody artist Joyelle Brandt saw her work - along with Nathania Vishnevsky and Leesa Hanna's art - auctioned off recently to raise money for a bursary.

Carolyn Harrison was an auction winner. The $150 bursary will be offered to a young artist in financial need via the Port Moody Arts Centre.
