SPOTLIGHT: Books for babies, 9/11 remembered

Diane Mausser , president of the Coquitlam branch of the Canadian Federation of University Women, recently handed over $350 to the Terry Fox Library in Port Coquitlam for its Books for Babies program.

Diane Mausser, president of the Coquitlam branch of the Canadian Federation of University Women, recently handed over $350 to the Terry Fox Library in Port Coquitlam for its Books for Babies program. The cash was collected by Paul Nelson, president of the Friends of Terry Fox Library, and library services assistant Susan Clark. CFUW-Coquitlam, which includes women from the Tri-Cities, Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge, provides financial assistance to university and high school students as well as library literacy programs. HOPE OPENS

Grade 9 student Andrew Sahaydak cut the ribbon at this month's opening of the Hope Lutheran Christian School in Port Coquitlam. The Sept. 8 opening, led by Pastor Hautz, was attended by teachers, school board representatives, staff and school families. As well, PoCo Mayor Greg Moore and Rev. Don Schiemann, president of the Alberta-BC District of Lutheran Church-Canada, were also on hand.

9/11 TRIBUTE

Port Coquitlam fire chief Nick Delmonico and on-duty firefighters took time out Tuesday to pay tribute to the fallen smoke-eaters who died on Sept. 11, 2001. The department held a service at Firehall No. 1 at 9:11 a.m. and lowered the flags out of respect for the men and women who ran to the World Trade Centre 11 years ago.
