X FACTOR
Port Moody resident and UBC business undergrad Frankie Cena wowed the crowd for his live audition on the popular hit TV show The X Factor.
The 21-year-old actor, singer and model who, last November, was named Mr. World Canada 2012, appeared on the Los Angeles stage earlier this month.

SWEET SMELL
The winners' names are out for the 22nd annual Fraser Pacific Rose Society festival, held July 6 and 7 at Dogwood Pavilion in Coquitlam.
Best Rose in Show went to Alister Browne while Best Novice Entry was awarded to Claire McCarthy.
Gretchen and Mike Humphrey won the Best Miniature Bowl category and Hilda and Asoke Dutt took the Best Entry Bowls and Baskets.
The Best Show Box accolade also went to the Humprey team while Gloria Richardson won the Best Floribunda Bowl.
Browne also got top marks for Best Three Stems and Best Blend while Theresa and Ken Krause clinched the Best White or Mauve category. For Best Red and Yellow, the judges gave the nod to Shirley Stewart and Gloria Richardson, respectively. And Kay Bonathan dug up the Best Novice Specimen Bloom prize.
VERNON CAMP
A Port Moody teen was named the best cadet in 12 Platoon in the first intake of general military training at the Vernon Army Cadet Summer Training Centre.
Ct. Joo Wan An of the 2827 RCACC in PoMo accepted the recognition from Vernon Coun. Brian Quiring, reviewing officer. The course sees the cadets introduced to communal living, participate in an overnight basic trades field exercise, improve their accuracy with the air rifle and take part in a biathlon, among other things.
This summer, more than 1,100 army cadets from western Canada will spend up to six weeks at the Okanagan Valley training centre.
