The Tri-City News would like to extend best wishes to its Port Coquitlam paper carriers Naomi and Nina McGirr as their family gets ready to move to the Bahamas next month. This summer, the sisters had their dog Chester pull the wagon to help them along their delivery routes.

PM BOARD

A philanthropic group in Port Moody has a new board of directors.The Port Moody Foundation held its 25th annual general meeting on June 21 and re-elected Robert Simons as president, Paul Thiel as vice president, Karen Van Gilder as treasurer and Margaret Matthews as secretary.Also on the board are: Catherine Burns, Jo-Anne Parneta, Elizabeth Theriault, Wayne Borthwick and Jan Phillips. Established in 1989, the foundation raises money for charitable and community-driven causes.

CROSSROADS $

Michael Trentalance, assistant manager of Rona on Austin Avenue in Coquitlam, joined Crossroads Hospice Society's Barb Freeman, Jason Jakubec and Anna Wilczewski last month to present $220 it had raised through popcorn sales. Crossroads also accepted a $7,000 donation recently from the Kinsmen Club of Coquitlam. Over the past 10 years, the Kinsmen have collected more than $50,000 for the cause and its members have volunteered at its Hike for Hospice.

HATCHERY $

Mossom Creek hatchery's Ruth Foster and Neil Jaffra were on hand last month to accept $4,000 from a Port Moody company. Pacific Coast Terminals made the donation for the hatchery rebuild, with staff Bill Glendinning, Wade Leslie and city councillor Diana Dilworth offering up the contribution on the business' behalf.

CHORD STRUCK

Port Coquitlam army cadet Yiyang Zhang was on a high note last month after being named the best musician in the first intake of Basic Band cadets in Vernon. Zhang, a member of 2893 RCACC Seaforth Highlanders, received the accolade from Lt. Col. Kevin Tyler (commanding officer of the Rocky Mountain Rangers) at the final parade of the first intake of Bravo Training Group at the summer training centre.
