A Coquitlam girl who was born at Royal Columbian Hospital seven years ago returned to the New Westminster facility this month to give her new birthday toys to kids getting treated there. Feroza Jamal of the RCH Foundation recognized Isla Dobson's donation to the pediatrics department with a certificate of appreciation.

DIG IT

About 100 employees with FortisBC and their families rolled up their sleeves last Saturday to build a hoop house and community garden beside the Coquitlam's Inspiration Garden in Town Centre Park. The Community Day of Giving was a $30,000 donation to the city. Also at the event were Mayor Richard Stewart and councillors Brent Asmundson and Mae Reid.

PARENTS OF THE YEAR

Two Coquitlam parents were honoured this month for their achievements by the BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils (BCCPAC).At School District 43's DPAC annual general meeting, Emil Zimmermann (Panorama Heights elementary) and Teri Towner (Coquitlam DPAC) were presented with the accolades. They were only parents in the province to get BCCPAC awards this year.

HAWTHORNE'S 40TH

Port Coquitlam's Hawthorne Seniors' Care Centre marked its 40th anniversary with a carnival and BBQ this month.Mayor Greg Moore - the honourary chair of the Heart of Hawthorne Foundation - and executive director Lenore Pickering opened the celebrations and paid tribute to two longtime employees: Lynda McDermott and Linda Takimoto, who have worked at the facility since it started. Volunteers Eva Round and Jim Kelly were also recognized for their efforts.
