TCO CASH
Maura Fitzpatrick, fundraising manager for the Coquitlam-based Children of the Street Society, this month accepted a $1,500 donation from Geoff Jopson, chairperson of the West Vancouver Community Foundation.
The cash will go toward the non-profit society's school-based educational workshops, called TCO (which stands for Taking Care of Ourselves and Taking Care of Others), in West Van. The workshops teach kids about how to be safe from sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

The Port Coquitlam and District Hunting & Fishing Club has a new name for its hatchery.
The 35-year-old facility is now called the Grist Goeson Memorial Hatchery in tribute to Wayne Goeson - a hatchery founding volunteer, two-term PCDHFC past president and life member - and past president Al Grist. The name changed happened on March 14.
Currently, the hatchery is rearing 100,000 Coho and 20,000 Chinook salmon, due to be released over the next year into the Coquitlam River, a spokesperson said.

A well-known eatery in Coquitlam's Austin Heights neighbourhood celebrated 40 years in business this month. Me 'n Eds, located at 1121 Austin Ave., has employed about 1,900 young people since it opened in 1975 and has served up around 28,000 pounds of cheese per year to its customers on its pizzas and other menu items.

A Port Moody singer, debater and model was in the Philippines this month to deliver his first commencement speech at an international school.
Frankie Cena, the 2012 Mr. World Canada who presented at last year's Miss World in London, England, was in Manila to catch up with Miss World host and former Miss World Megan Young. Later that week, he also presented a debate and speech lecture/workshop at Naga City People's Hall and his commencement address at Brentwood College of Asia.

A Coquitlam resident is one of 30 British Columbians chosen for the Seniors Advocate Council of Advisors.
