Oktoberfest at Douglas College saw more than 200 people hoist a glass for student aid and raise $30,000 for bursaries. The 16th annual A Class Act was held last Friday at the Coquitlam campus with a German theme that included tastings of beer, wine and Bavarian food along with auctions, a raffle and live music. College students in the hospitality program acted as hosts and servers during the night.

BACK TO 1958

Place des Arts was a hub of entertainment last Saturday - with dancing and byelection chatter rampant - for the Coquitlam art centre's third annual gala fundraiser. Impromptu: Live! On Air, a nod to the golden era of T.V. in 1958, saw dozens of politicians and candidates mingle with arts and community leaders. The event raised more than $10,000 for PdA arts education programs.

RCH THANKS

Adrienne Bakker, the foundation president and CEO for Royal Columbian Hospital, which serves the Tri-Cities, this month joined the foundation's board chairperson, Belle Puri, in presenting a certificate of recognition to Amar Doman, chairman and CEO of CanWel Building Materials Group.The company donated $5,000 for patient needs at the New Westminster facility.
