BOOKWORMS

More than 300 children walked forward at Port Moody Public Library last month to receive their gold medal for reading 50 days this summer.

The ceremony at the Inlet Theatre was for the library's Up, Up & Away program. Participants had to commit to reading at least 15 minutes a day since the start of June.

Those at the event included Port Moody-Coquitlam MLA Linda Reimer, Mayor Mike Clay, Coun. Bob Elliott, Janet Phillips of the Royal Bank Financial Group, Linda Martin, library board chairperson, and board member Katherine Fraser.

AND THE WINNER IS...

A Coquitlam-based moving company was named this week as a finalist for a BBB Torch Award.

On Wednesday, the Better Business Bureau announced Williams Moving and Storage was shortlisted for a marketplace excellence accolade (large business category).

"This year our Torch Awards showcases how businesses can be a force for positive change in our communities," said BBB president and CEO Danielle Primrose in a news release.

Finalists for the 2013 awards were selected by a panel of judges independent of the BBB. The winners will be announced on Oct. 24 in Vancouver.
