Air cadets with the Port Moody Phoenix 754 squadron got a look-over during an annual ceremonial review last week at Dr. Charles Best secondary in Coquitlam. FSgt. Jared Chiu received the Lord Strathcona medal from William Rodgers, honorary lieutenant colonel of the 15th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery. The accolade is for exemplary performance in physical and military training.

"Found" money that was dropped on the floors and left behind at slot machines at Hard Rock Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam has meant a $1,000 payout to a Port Moody charity. This month, operators Great Canadian Gaming Corp. donated the cash to Crossroads Hospice Society.
BOOK MEDAL
B.C. Lt. Gov. Judith Guichon presented Belcarra Mayor Ralph Drew with a medal for historical writing this month at the B.C. Historical Federation Awards. The ceremony, held at the Surrey Museum and Archives on June 6, recognized Drew's recently published book Forest & Fjord: The History of Belcarra.
