COLLEGE LEADERS
The foundation serving Douglas College, which has a campus in Coquitlam, has a new executive board. Coquitlam resident Darlene Hyde, the executive director of NAIOP Vancouver (an association that represents commercial real estate developers, owners and investors), will lead the foundation. She is also vice-chairperson of the Westminster Savings Credit Union. Hyde will be joined on the board by Port Coquitlam resident Nigel Lark, publisher of The Tri-City News, as vice-chairperson; Wendy Lindvik, a Coquitlam resident and HSBC branch manager, as treasurer; and Coquitlam Coun. Neal Nicholson, as secretary. Other board members are Baj Puri, Karen Baker-MacGrotty, Nick Cheng, George Home, Ben Kendall, Suzanne Kyra and Ted Lau.
HOSPITAL CASH
Adrienne Bakker, president and CEO of the foundation for the Royal Columbian Hospital, which serves the Tri-Cities, this month accepted $5,000 from Larry Kozak, an integrated solution executive with TELUS.
OFF TO AFRICA
A Gleneagle graduate has won post-secondary tuition as well as a trip to Kenya to volunteer with the international charity Free The Children. Coquitlam's Lauren Wilson beat 5,000 applicants to win the cash and Me to We experience to Africa through the RBC Student Leading Change Scholarship Program.
THREE SILVERS
A Coquitlam company is up for a gold award at the 25th annual Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) gala this fall. Transportation Management Centre recently hauled in three silver awards of excellence from the VRCA, which qualifies the firm for the top prize in October at the Vancouver Convention Centre dinner. The silver accolades were for the categories General Contractor ($15 million to $40 million), Mechanical Contractor (up to $3 million) and Manufacturer and Supplier.
