SPLATTER!
Two dozen volunteers donned their grubs for Sunday's ParticiPAINT to erase graffiti at a Port Coquitlam building. The paint was supplied by Benjamin Moore Tri-City Paint and Decorating for the city event that was led by mural artist Kris Kupskay of Hidden Agenda Projects. Other sponsors were Me 'n Eds Pizza, Safeway, Coopers Foods, Starbucks and youth Muslim Ismaili Civic group.
CADET AWARDS
Port Coquitlam air cadets Stefan Dirlau and Leo Jung of the 777 squadron took awards at last week's final graduation parade the the Albert Head Cadet Training Centre in Victoria. Dirlau was named top cadet in the basic survival course while Jung was picked as most improved cadet in the basic fitness and sports course. Another Port Coquitlam air cadet, Alexander Edward Stad, earned a most improved cadet accolade at an earlier graduation parade.
REGATTA
A cadet with RCSCC Grilse in Port Moody represented B.C. this week at the 2013 National Sea Cadet Regatta. The sailing event on Lake Ontario, near the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ont., saw Ct. Quinn Lessing, 18, compete in Boat 23 with partner Ct. Ian Curran. Two years ago, Lessing, a Pinetree secondary graduate, placed third with Riis Ingalis of RCSCC Kamloops at the helm; the previous year, he took first place with cadet Gleb Moiseyenko.The top 50 sea cadet sailors from across Canada compete in the national regatta. The Royal Canadian Sea Cadet program is offered to youth between the ages of 12 and 18 and is delivered in partnership between the Navy League of Canada and the Department of National Defence.
